Our Threaded Principles were written in collaboration with our course providers and trainees. They refer to the key themes that run consistently through our course, providing cohesion and connecting otherwise independent elements. They identify and emphasise the most important and unifying aspects of the course and are what make us unique.

Our course is ADAPTIVE FOR THE WHOLE PARTNERSHIP:

We embrace adaptability to cater to the diverse needs of all stakeholders. Within this, we include not only our trainees but also our mentors, course providers, link tutors, Governors and SCITT team.
We know the people we work with and aim to carefully craft a program that both empowers and accommodates the requirements of everyone involved.

Our course is PURPOSEFULLY DESIGNED:

We promote purpose-driven integration to maximize the effectiveness of our programme.

We are rigorous in ensuring that our trainee teachers are evidence-informed and that all learning from the taught-element sessions is carefully sequenced and closely aligned with school-based placements. Regular communication, meaningful collaborations and explicit links ensure that all stakeholders are aware of this in order that the course is seamlessly and purposefully integrated.

WELLBEING FOR ALL is at the heart of the programme:

At Portsmouth SCITT, wellbeing is a golden thread which runs throughout our course. Our robust policy and ethos around the importance of wellbeing starts from the recruitment stages and is a constant conversation with consistent tracking to ensure the positive mental health of our trainees. We believe that a strong focus on wellbeing is important in order to prepare trainees for the rigour and realities of the classroom.

As well as the wellbeing of our trainees, we prioritise the holistic wellbeing of all stakeholders as a core focus and as a fundamental pillar of our programme for lasting impact.
