Portsmouth SCITT is a provider of primary initial teacher training with 25 years of experience in training high-quality teachers on the south coast. For 2025/26, Portsmouth SCITT will be delivering a one-year primary PGCE course on the Isle of Wight and we are looking for experienced primary practitioners to join our subject lead team.

We are currently looking to recruit primary subject leads for:

  • Maths
  • History
  • Geography

Your school will be remunerated for your time, and you will need the support of your head teacher in undertaking this role. They will need to write a supporting statement alongside your expression of interest in the role, commit to releasing you to deliver the sessions, and agree to the terms of the remuneration as set out in the agreement between Portsmouth SCITT and your employing school.

It is also possible to apply for this role if you are not currently employed in a school if you have relevant recent experience.

 What we are looking for:

  • Experience of delivering CPD, staff meetings or working with adult learners
  • A drive and passion for the subject area
  • An understanding of initial teacher training, the ITT CCF and the Teachers’ Standards
  • Evidence of commitment to own CPD
  • A commitment to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of our trainees

What we can offer:

  • Become part of a well-established and cohesive team
  • Be a part of our exciting new venture on the Island
  • Gain experience within the ITT sector
  • Enhance your own CPD – we provide membership to all relevant subject associations and invite you to our annual conference days
  • Unique opportunity to shape the future of teaching on the Isle of Wight

 About us:

  • Outstanding (Ofsted 2024) provider of primary ITT with 25 years’ experience
  • Trainees qualify with PGCE and QTS
  • School based programme with a minimum of 120 days in school
  • Bespoke training with a focus on wellbeing for all trainees
  • Delivering training in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight for 2025/26

 Next steps:

To apply for this role please complete this short expression of interest by Friday 7th February 2025 via this link and ask your head teacher or line manager to complete the supporting statement via this link. If you are not currently employed in a school, this can be completed by a relevant referee, such as a head teacher or line manager from your most recent employment.

Successful applicants will be invited to a professional conversation with members of the Portsmouth SCITT leadership team where we will further discuss your suitability for the role.
